Holding tanks on RVs, boats and mobile sanitation units are two different systems, and one powder rarely serves both. A black-water tank carries toilet waste and tissue: high solids, long retention and essentially anaerobic conditions, with protein and cellulose as the main substrates and ammonia, hydrogen sulphide and sulphur compounds as the main odour sources. A grey-water tank carries kitchen sink and shower water: low solids, short retention, grease, sebum and residues of detergents and personal-care products, with filters, level sensors and narrow valves that do not tolerate insoluble residues. We therefore treat the two tanks as two grades, differing in enzyme set, strain tolerance and carrier. Grade selection, the per-tank dose and the dose form (sachet, water-soluble pouch, tablet or liquid) are set from tank volume, substrate load, holding period and the cleaning agents already in use, then verified in a bench test at the same tank volume. A common 40 US gallon tank is about 151 L; we do not quote a catalogue gram-per-tank figure before that test, because a static, intermittent, high-solids holding tank behaves very differently from an aerated continuous-flow wastewater system. Chlorine-releasing agents and quaternary ammonium disinfectants inactivate biological products and must be separated in time and in dosing lines. Formulations should not carry biocides or strong oxidants that would suppress the biology of the dump station or septic system receiving the tank contents. TDS, COA and SDS are issued for the selected grade and destination; the viable count is stated on the batch COA together with its test method.
Applications
- Black-water holding tanks: toilet waste and tissue, odour control and solids reduction
- Grey-water holding tanks: kitchen grease and shower-water residues
- Recreational vehicles, caravans and marine sanitation systems
- Mobile toilets and portable sanitation units with periodic emptying
